Frankincense Resinoid
In Chinese medicine it is used externally for injuries, and skin eruptions. Ayurvedic medicine regards it as rejuvenative.
Medicinally it is used to combat respiratory problems and to fight infection.
Olibanum can be found growing in the regions surrounding the Red Sea, Somalia and Ethiopia.
Olibanum resinoid (Boswellia carterii) is also sometimes known as frankincense resinoid. The gum is used fresh, or dried for distillation, decoctions, or powders.
Olibanum resinoid is a valuable fixative in perfumery.
Olibanum resinoid is used in incense.
Once distilled, the oil is pale yellow in colour and it has a fresh, fruity and woody aroma.
The main constituents are pinene and limonene. Aromatherapists use it for its astringent, expectorant and antiseptic properties on the skin.
The oil is obtained from the resin of the boswelli carterii tree by steam distillation.
