I received this as a sample in the mail with my most recent LUSH order. Through the packaging, I could only really smell the spicy cinnamon (which was nice!), but using it to wash my hands really brought out its complexity. I'm big on nostalgia, and the smell reminds me so much of those homemade, clove-studded orange pomanders that my family used to hang up around the house, especially during the autumn and winter months. I have always loved that smell. The only downside is that the soap did dry out my hands, but almost all bar soaps seem to do that anyway. Overall, a very pleasant surprise in my LUSH order. I would definitely repurchase this!

I got this soap as a sample and didn't think much of it at first. Then I used it in the shower and was pleasantly surprised! I love anything with cloves, and this soap smells just like cloves mixed with fresh orange juice. Best soap I have tried so far!

There is nothing negative to say about red rooster. I found this soap in Derby, England's Lush and have been addicted to it ever since. It fills your whole bathroom with the wonderful scent. I'm not a morning person and have a hard time waking up, but when I jump in the shower and start lathering up I'm wide awake, and this is before my coffee. I was upset when I couldn't find it in the stores anymore but it was short lived when I found out I could get it online. This is by far the best soap I've ever used!

Ew. i got this as a sample soap with my online purchase and it stunk up my whole box. it doesnt smell anything like the description says, it smells like pepper. the smell is so nasty & STRONG it's not even worth trying it out in the shower, it gives me a headache.

This soap is fantastic! The clove smell is VERY strong though so if you don't care for cloves this soap is not for you! I happen to LOVE the scent of cloves so this soap is one of my very favorites!!!

We got this as a sample with some other soaps and bombs and I tried it this morning. It's VERY fragrant. I can still smell the cinnamon and orange aromas and maybe that's a good/bad thing depending on how those fragrances sit with you. The small sample bar lathered fairly well for me but I use a sponge. I'm a pretty big guy (6'3", 220#) and i was able to wash head to toe with one application of the soap to the sponge. it rinsed clean and i can actually feel a slight tingle, maybe from the cinnamon oil. to use different words, i smell like i'm using 'tiger balm', if anyone knows what that is, that's the closest i can compare the fragrance. but it's not an overwhelming aroma that's left on the skin, just a bit but i'm sure it wears off as the day goes by. all in all, not bad but i think i like it more for the aroma in the shower than the aroma left on my skin. :)

I recieved this as a sample in my LUSH order. It smells exactly like pumpkin pie!The only bad thing is that the black stuff makes the soap not last long.

I received this product in a sample size after I made another purchase online. I was fairly excited to try it, and when I did I was not necessarily thrilled, but I think it was because I got a sample and not the whole bar. The smell was very "cinnamony", and it did linger on the skin a litle while. It did not have a great lather, then again I only had the sample, but it did leave me feeling clean. If you like cinnamon and citrus, then you will probably love this soap, but if you need a ton of lather, maybe this soap is not for you.

ok so i got this off the website and i opening it up.... the smell was horrible. I couldn't place it, but i couldn't stand it. fragrance is very personal so one thing to 1 person is another to another. anywho.... i guess (im sniffing it right now) its a grow on you sent in the most positive words?!

With my last online order I asked for a few retro soap samples and this was one of them. I was super excited to get a good slab to try out because i'd been tempted to purchase it recently. It was lovely, very warm and spicy and soft. The scent changed a little towards the end, becoming just a tad bitter, but overall, quite a nice fragrance and lather :)

This is the ultimate cinnaspicy soap. I wish Glogg smelled exactly like this, I'd buy it by the gallon.

Like all Lush soaps, this melts fast, but it's completely amazing while it lasts.

I want a candle that smells just like this, please. And a body lotion. And a perfume.

I received this soap as a free sample in an order I placed online. When I first smelled it I was able to immediately identify the orange and cinnamon (normally I'm not able to pick up all of the notes in most LUSH products -however, it was very obvious here). And I was pleasantly surprised that the two scents went so well together, because I would have never thought they'd make a nice pairing. I took a shower with my Red Rooster chunk that night and loved every minute of it! The smell wasn't overpowering; it was spicey, warm, orangey... It reminds me of the holidays. This would be a good one to use on a winter morning. Wakes and warms you up!

This is an amazing soap, I love to use it on my face because the zesty scent wakes me right up! I love how it smells- it reminds me of ginger snaps, or pie spices. I love it, but it almost seems like a "man soap" since the scent isn't delicate and floral, so it's definitely not for those who want a light and dainty scented soap. I'm totally not going to stop using it though, and I'm going to buy some for my boyfriend!

Love the scent. Yeah, there isn't a whole lot of orange smell to it, but I didn't mind. I had wonderful whiffs of clove and cinnamon all day. My only issue is I really don't like bar soap as a lot of it ends up wasted down the drain from melting in the shower. I much prefer a shower gel. So Lush... make this in a gel and I will definitely buy it! However, I do very much thank you for the soap sample.

It smelled of cinnamon certainly, not overly strong. I could smell no orange in it at all. The smell is unpleasant, and has an odd undertone I have smelled before but can not place. The undertone is not a good one, almost like something waxy and rotten. Not using this again.

While I do pick up the orange in this, it hits my nose as mostly spicy, and among the spices the clove seems to be strongest to me. It's basically Clove Soap in my mind...

I got a sample of this and took it with me when i was visiting some friends... I was so overwhelmed by the cloviness of it, it's too warm and spicy for me to wear alone, so I grabbed the only thing I could find at the time to layer with it - lime verbena bodywash. Surprisingly, this worked out really well, and provided just enough of a freshness to balance out the clove. When I got out of the shower and dried off, I really did smell like cologne. It was a slightly sharp, clean-cut fragrance with hints of green and just enough spice. Based on how the lime verbena bodywash combo worked out, I'd bet this would layer really nicely with Sea Vegetable for a guy, for a clean, herbal smell. Otherwise, layering with Olive Branch to play up the citrus is probably a safe gamble. You could also layer it with Bamboo if you wanted, maybe, if you want a really woodsy masculine spice.

I think clove can make a lovely note for women too, and I imagine if you pick the right kind of floral soap to go with this you could get a really nice combo. I don't think a floral would work well if it's too sweet or fruity though... Otherwise it might layer really nicely with Vanilla in the Mist, to sweeten it up a bit and round it out while still complementing the spice.

I can see why Lush recommends this with Karma... it seems like it's the spicier, patchouli-less counterpart to the vision for Karma. :\
