Lavandula angustifolia

Benefits

Natural

Lavender is naturally calming and soothing. It balances the skin and scalp and relaxes sore muscles. The flowers release a beautiful fragrance that quiets the mind and promotes restful sleep.

Lavender is a shrub-like plant that’s a member of the mint family. There are as many as 30 different species, and Lush purchase lavender flowers in Provence, France. They grow on stems up to 50cm high, and the flowering tops can measure up to 30cm. The violet flowers are picked as soon as they begin to open, and they are then used fresh, distilled for oil, or dried for use in infusions and tinctures — or simply for decoration.

In 1910, French chemist René-Maurice Gattefosse discovered the healing properties of lavender. When he badly burned his hand during an experiment at a perfumery plant, he rinsed his skin with lavender essential oil and found that it healed quickly, without scarring.
