Calendula officinalis (pot marigold or common marigold) is a hardy plant, native to Central Europe and the Mediterranean. It is a beloved garden plant due to its vibrant colour and its popularity with pollinators. The flower can be used entirely or ground to make a fine powder that disperses easily into water and oils to make infusions or extracts.

Regarded for its numerous effects on the skin and overall health, the flower has been cultivated as early as the 12th century. Saponins, flavonoids and carotenoids found in the petals are powerful antioxidant compounds, thought to help reduce the appearance of thread veins and broken capillaries.
