Hair? So soft. Skin? So, so smooth! Brazil nut oil is a brilliant gift from the forest.
Where do we get it?
Lush UK sources this oil from two suppliers, each pressing nuts that have been wild-harvested in Peru. Both suppliers have quite similar approaches, focusing on creating sustainable income opportunities for local indigenous communities. They each have agroforestry projects aiming to regenerate degraded land and conserve forests whilst creating employment in their region.
With seven manufacturing sites across the globe, this information may vary depending on where your Lush products were made.
What are the benefits of Brazil nut oil for the skin, hair and scalp?
- The oil has a strong affinity with human sebum and is therefore easily absorbed.
- It is an important source of moisturising unsaturated fatty acids and phytosterols.
- It is rich in vitamin E and selenium, which work together against the oxidative effect of free radicals on our cells.
- Rich in natural squalene, it offers a protective and conditioning layer.
Certainly a bit nuts
Brazil nuts are so rich in oil that they will burn like a candle if lit. They are the edible seeds of a South American tree (Bertholletia excelsa), which grows in the Amazon rainforest. The trees are of great commercial importance to the local people there, and a vital part of the forest’s ecosystem.
