Also known as glucose syrup, this sweet humectant helps retain moisture into the skin.
Indigenous to Southern Mexico, corn grows in what is known as ears, on thick, fibrous stalks that can reach up to 15 feet in height. Each stalk will produce two ears of corn, which are made up of approximately 800 corn kernels.
The syrup is made from the grain’s starch and is often used in the food industry as a thickener, sweetener and humectant. It is a cheaper and more environmentally-friendly alternative to cane sugar. Like glycerine, the ability of the syrup to attract and hold water enables the creation of self-preserving products.
