Toning rosemary is believed to promote hair growth and prevent hair loss when applied to the scalp. The plant's antibacterial and anti-fungal properties combat dandruff, cleanse the skin and help create effective deodorants.

Native to the Mediterranean, rosemary is an evergreen shrub that can grow to six feet tall. Like its botanical name implies (rosmarinus meaning ‘dew of the sea’) the shrub can be found growing close to the sea.

The leaves and flowering tops of rosemary can be used fresh, dried or distilled for their essential oils. A relative of basil and oregano, it belongs to the Labiatae family and has been cultivated since ancient times for use in medicine. 

Powdered materials like this one are great for use in self-preserving cosmetics as the drier a product formula is, the less bacteria are able to grow, reducing the need for synthetic preservatives.
