Fucus vesiculosus

Seaweed absolute is used in perfumery when marine or seashore fragrances are required. It has been used for years in medicine for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, C and E.

Seaweed absolute comes from the plant Fucus vesiculosus, known as bladder wrack or bladderwrack seaweed, and is extracted by solvent extraction. Fucus vesiculosus originates from the coasts of the North Sea, the western Baltic Sea and is usually found on rocky shores. It was the original source of iodine used for the treatment of iodine deficiency.

It is a deep green or greenish-brown liquid of intensely green, herbaceous and woody odour. Seaweed absolute distinctly recalls the smell of seaweed drying on a salt-water beach after a heavy storm.
