Black Treacle

Black treacle is an uncrystallised syrup also known as dark or blackstrap molasses. It adds sweetness and a thick, syrupy texture to lip balms.

It is produced from sugar cane, a tropical and subtropical grass. In the late stages of sugar cane processing (after the second or third extraction), after the sugar has been removed, an almost-black residue remains. This residue is black treacle.
