Patchouli is a bushy herb, belonging to the mint family. It is widely used in perfumery today as it has a distinctive, earthy aroma. It's also used in aromatherapy for its relaxing and antiviral properties.

Though native to tropical parts of Asia, patchouli is now cultivated elsewhere including Indonesia, China and the Philippines. The patchouli plant can grow up to about three feet tall and has long stems with purple or white flowers.
