Some say that carrots make you see in the dark… We don’t know about that, but we do hope they’ll make your skin look radiant!
Where do we get it?
Nearly all of our fresh fruit and vegetables are purchased from the same specialist distributor, whom Lush UK has been working with since 2005. Depending on the time of year, they source products from different countries to try and have availability all year round. They work hard to supply as many organic products as possible and provide the highest quality available the rest of the time.
With seven manufacturing sites across the globe, this information may vary depending on where your Lush products were made. Although, when it comes to fresh ingredients, it’s generally purchased through distributors.
What are the benefits of carrot juice for your skin?
Fresh carrot juice gives the skin a bright, healthy glow. The vibrant orange colour of the vegetable is due to beta-carotene, an antioxidant compound and a precursor to vitamin A when ingested. Antioxidants help fight the oxidation of skin cells - a natural process that, in short, causes the skin to wrinkle. It is therefore thought that the application of antioxidants to the skin has a rejuvenating effect, although research still needs to investigate this further.
A bit of history
Carrots are biennial plants belonging to the Apiaceae family. They produce edible taproots of different colours: orange, yellow, white and purple. The name derives from the Greek karoton, and the root of the word (pun intended) means ‘horn’ - a reference to the carrot’s shape.
In the 7th century, a purple variety already existed in Afghanistan and was later introduced to Europe around 1100. It was not until the 16th and 17th centuries that the orange type began to be cultivated in the Netherlands, in tribute to the emblematic colour of their royal family.
