The plant varieties that produce cananga and ylang ylang oils are so similar that they’re often confused. Both oils have a very sensual, floral scent, but ylang ylang has a sweet twist to it while cananga is considered heavier, with woody and leathery base notes.
The cananga tree, also called Ylang, is a tropical plant native to Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, that grows up to 60 feet tall. The oil is distilled from its beautiful, fragrant flowers with long and swirling petals of bright yellow colour.
