Cucumis Sativus Fruit (Fresh Cucumber)

Ingredient

Cucumis Sativus Fruit (Fresh Cucumber)

Cucumis Sativus

Benefits

Natural

Cooling cucumber de-puffs and soothes the skin with a delicate yet distinctive fresh scent.

Like melons, the cucumber is part of the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae) and is cultivated all around the world.

What are the benefits of fresh cucumber?

  • Reduce puffiness
  • Hydrating and cooling
  • Firming and smoothing

Cucumbers may be 90% water, but they’re also packed with vitamins and minerals that benefit the skin: vitamin C is thought to increase collagen and elastin production, tackle sun damage and smooth fine lines; vitamin B helps the skin to retain moisture, and silica, which is found in the dark green peel, helps to firm the skin. Silica also strengthens the hair, helping to minimise breakage.

Where do we source fresh cucumber?

During the summer months, we source* fresh cucumbers from Carey’s Secret Garden, a Victorian walled garden located not far from our factory in Dorset. Carey’s Secret Garden focuses on rewilding and biodiversity, and they use polytunnels to grow cucumbers for us, using organic and regenerative principles. To ensure year-round availability, we also use a specialist fruit and vegetable distributor, with whom we have been working since 2005.  Read more about Careys Secret Garden and why sourcing fresh, local ingredients (where possible) is so important to us.

*With several manufacturing sites across the globe, this information may vary depending on where your Lush products were made.
