Beautiful pink hues and cleansing power - rose clay absorbs excess oil and water into itself and makes a gently buffing paste when mixed with water.

Rose clay is made with kaolin, a naturally occurring porous soft clay rich in the mineral, kaolinite. It varies in colour, but it’s the white, finest powder grade that is used in cosmetics. A versatile material, kaolin has a multitude of traditional and industrial uses. Most of the kaolin mined today is used for making paper, ceramics, and in the manufacture of makeup and skincare products.

To give kaolin a pink colour, iron oxide is added. Iron oxides can be of different colours, and the red, also known as rust, is one of the oldest pigments ever used for painting. Nowadays, it is produced synthetically to obtain the best purity and quality for use on the skin.

While this combination of kaolin and iron oxide sometimes occurs naturally, its colour has more of a brownish shade than pink. This is why Lush purchase a man-made blend in the United States.
