Benefits

Natural

Oh, Blueberry, you're so very berry blue!

Organic blueberries get their rich colour from a pigment called anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that is said to encourage collagen production. Ordinarily, this gives fruit a deep red or purple hue, but blueberries' waxy skin makes them appear blue instead. Blueberries also have a high tannin content, which gives them antiseptic qualities. So you see, they’re as good for the skin as they are your bowl of porridge!

What are organic blueberries good for?

  • Rich in antioxidants (anthocyanin and vitamins C and E) to help protect the skin from damage.
  • Their vitamin C and K content may encourage cell repair and growth for glowy, rejuvenated skin.
  • Source of fatty acids, to help regulate moisture.

Where does Lush source organic blueberries?

Lush UK* buys blueberries from a farm in Dorset, where they are handpicked daily from June to September and whisked straight to the factory, where they are mulched into products. However, as the UK season is so short, it does mean the blueberries have to be frozen for use outside of harvesting time, so the berries are fast-frozen as soon as they are freshly picked. Blueberries, unlike other fresh ingredients, still perform the same when frozen: they retain their colour, nutrients and their scrumptious plumpness.

The freezing of the blueberries is done in order to reduce the need, where possible, to fly soft fruit in, allowing the support of a local business all year round while also giving Lush the chance to be sure of the growing conditions, and know that they will arrive ripe and in perfect condition.

*With several manufacturing sites across the globe, this information may vary depending on where your Lush products were made.
