Cananga odorata

The heady, sweet and floral scent of ylang ylang oil uplifts the mood and reduces anxiety. On skin, the oil is toning and when applied to the scalp it helps to stimulate hair growth. It is also thought to have aphrodisiac effects.

The cananga tree, also called ylang, is a tropical plant native to Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines that grows up to 60 feet tall. The oil is extracted from the yellow flowers of the plant by steam distillation.

This oil is produced in the Lush plantation in Ghana where the challenge over the past few years has been to change a monoculture ylang plantation into a permaculture site to ensure ground cover and soil improvement in a region prone to drought.
