Brassica Napus Seed Oil (Rapsöl aus Fukushima)
Brassica Napus
Vorteile
Natural
A great emollient and a gift from nature.
Where do we get it?
This rapeseed oil is bought from a small collective of farmers in Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster area.
‘Did you really say Fukushima?’
The Japanese buying team at Lush has worked closely with Fukushima farmers to support them. Rapeseed crops represent a vital source of income for people who lost their livelihoods in the disaster. Indeed, the plant has the unique ability to soak up irradiated caesium from the soil. However, when you extract oil from the seeds, the caesium stays in the plant. As a result, this rapeseed oil is safe to use and cleans up the soil. This is called bioremediation or regenerating the land using nature.
Watch the farmers tend to their land here.
What are the benefits of rapeseed oil for your skin and hair?
- Very moisturising and emollient.
- Contains more than 50% of omega 9 oleic acid, a fat that is readily absorbed by the skin.
- Said to have good antioxidant properties that help the skin maintain a firm and radiant appearance.
Unique stories
Also called canola or colza, the rape plant (a name that comes from the Latin word ‘rapa’ which means ‘turnip’) is from the same family of mustard and cabbage and therefore has a slightly tangy taste when not refined. It has been cultivated in Europe and Asia since antiquity, painting beautiful, bright yellow landscapes in the fields during the flowering period.
