Manteca de Murumuru Prensada en Frío
Highly moisturising, murumuru butter coats the skin and hair with a light and protective film. It helps retain moisture and provides a smooth and shiny appearance.
Found in the Amazon rainforest, Astrocaryum murumuru is a tall and spiny evergreen palm with a thick trunk and a shuttlecock-shaped crown. The nutritious, edible fruits are an important local food source and the many materials made from the tree are commercially significant to the region. The seed oil is traditionally used to soften and protect the hair.
With a similar colour, consistency and melting point to cocoa butter, murumuru has a unique fatty acid composition. It contains around 47% of lauric acid, which lends antimicrobial properties. It is also an excellent source of oleic acid and essential fatty acids omega-6 and omega-3, which help calm inflammation and promote wound healing.
Lush source this butter from a Brazilian community that lives under the constant threat of being evicted from the land they occupy. In addition to a few crops, they harvest murumuru and açaí seeds from the wild. Murumuru seeds are then cold-pressed for their butter, which means they are simply pressed and filtered, with no solvents or other ingredients involved.
