Max! Get our cloak. We’ve been much too tolerant of these soapy scoundrels.
What are onion seeds?
When you think of growing onions, you’d be forgiven for picturing small bulbs begetting bigger bulbs. So, where do the seeds come in? To get onion seeds, you must forfeit your tasty onion salad, and instead leave the bulb in the ground to allow the plant to flower, aka ‘go to seed’ (the name really gave us a clue there). Green seeds grow in the resulting flower head, turning brown or black as they dry ready for seed harvest.
What are the benefits of onion seed oil?
- Antimicrobial properties create a hostile environment for acne-inducing bacteria.
- Fatty acids, oleic and linoleic, protect and repair the skin barrier, while providing a skin-soothing moisture boost.
- Sulphur is onion’s secret weapon. On the skin, sulphur can reduce excess sebum production, a win for breakout-prone skin. In haircare, it is thought to help keep the scalp clear.
- Vitamins A (also known as retinol), C and E encourage skin-cell turnover and moisture retention for a radiant, glowy complexion.
What is cold pressed oil?
Cold pressing is a method of extracting the oil from a plant’s seeds or fruit. It’s the most natural form of extraction, as it doesn’t involve heat or solvents; the only thing applied to the ingredient is mechanical pressure. This pressure presses a pure and unaltered oil from the raw material, which retains more of the onion seeds chemical components.
