It’s spring time!
Where do we get it?
Lush purchases yomogi leaves, grown without pesticides or fertilisers, from Japanese farmers.
What are the benefits of yomogi leaves for the skin?
Yomogi, or Japanese mugwort, has been used as a medicinal plant and bath salt for centuries in Japan and is said to have a warming effect on the body.
Its elegant, unique fragrance is partly due to two aromatic components called cineole and borneol, which give off a spicy, camphor-like scent. Cineole, also named eucalyptol in reference to eucalyptus, has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. It is also effective in soothing the skin and mind.
Green is the colour of hope
Yomogi is a species of mugwort that is native to Japan, Korea and China. In Japanese culture, the plant's green colour and herbal taste have made it a symbol of spring, which is why it is present in many sweets prepared especially for this season. The most emblematic are yomogi and kusa mochis (rice cakes), and it is also sometimes used in the green part of hanami dangos (rice flour dumplings) and hishi mochis.
