Cognacolie (Vitis vinifera)
With a complex and unique aroma, wine lees oil brings a festive note to fragrances and invites other oils to enter the dance. It has winey notes caught in an earthy and herbaceous embrace, all lifted by a fruity, sparkling touch.
Flicking through essential oils books you’ll rarely see anything about wine lees oil and yet it’s been a perfumer’s beloved material for years. As its name suggests, the oil is distilled from lees, a deposit forming in the barrels during wine fermentation. It is mainly produced in Romania, France and Italy and Lush source it from Italy.
