Safflower oil is considered a great smoother and emollient for the skin and it probably has the highest percentage of unsaturated fats of all the oils. It contains a high level of linoleic acid, a well-known acne-fighter, and is also rich in vitamin E, a great antioxidant. On the hair, the oil promotes hair growth and hydrates the scalp.
Safflower oil has a deep amber-yellow colour and a slightly nutty, earthy flavour. The oil is extracted from the seeds of the plant. Botanically related to lettuce, sunflowers and daisies, it was originally cultivated for its flowers, which were used for dyes, and only later for its oil-rich seeds.
