Values for Money — Black Friday
Does Lush do Black Friday sales? ... We’re glad you asked! The short answer is: no. You won’t find us spamming your inbox or lengthy queues at our stores. We believe the best type of value we can give our customers lies in our ingredients, our handmade approach and our ethical commitments. So here’s how we’re all about values for money …
WE PRICE OUR PRODUCTS FAIRLY.
Our ethical buying policy means not only are our ingredients high-quality but also sourced under fair conditions that support long-term relationships with the farmers, growers and processors we work with. Because of this, our prices reflect the true cost of these beautiful ingredients.
Take our Gorgeous moisturiser. Its Peruvian, organic jojoba oil comes from a conscientious supplier who champions high-welfare standards for its employees. And its organic extra virgin coconut oil? It’s produced by a supplier in Nias, Indonesia, who donates 10% of profits to support local children.
And don’t forget our iconic Angels On Bare Skin cleanser. We invest seven times more on its ingredients, like the 30% ground almonds pollinated by Majorcan bees, than we spend on the pot itself!
WE DON’T MARKDOWN TO MARKUP.
Businesses that rely on regular sales often hike up their prices throughout the year so they can “slash” them later, so in reality — you’re not really bagging a bargain.
Call us bananas, but we think there’s a better way to treat our loyal customers. Our prices remain consistent all year round, so you know where you stand with us. No inflated stickers and no last-minute “deals”. Just honest, fair pricing, every day.
WE CREATE LESS WASTE AND MORE WORTH.
We want you to find the right product for you — one that actually works and gets used up, rather than sitting half-used in your bathroom cabinet. That’s why you won’t find us doing “two for one” deals or encouraging you to buy products you don’t need. We’re focused on providing honest, personal service so that you can buy once and buy right — saving you money in the long-run, and together we cut down on unnecessary waste, packaging and overconsumption.
“Providing personal service is the best environmental practice. If we can get you connected to the appropriate product for your needs, you get really good value for money, we get a regular customer, plus the consumption of unneeded products and packaging decreases, and money is no longer wasted.” — Mark Constantine, Lush Co-Founder and CEO.
WE HOST FRESHNESS SALES (NOT BLACK FRIDAY ONES)
Freshness is our forte. So we only hold an occasional sale for products that have passed our self-imposed freshness policy. They’re still perfectly safe to use, just not at the usual peak freshness we’re known for.
NOTHING NEW HERE! — Lush’s history of Black Friday.
We’re a campaigning company at heart, so we’ve previously used Black Friday to promote another message.
2016: #KeepitOn with Access Now
In our first ever digital rights campaign, our websites around the globe were ‘switched off’ on Black Friday, confronting users with a fake shutdown and urging them to take action. The worldwide #KeepItOn campaign was designed to raise awareness of the impact of internet shutdowns. It was accompanied by a limited edition bath bomb called Error 404, which raised £213,000 for Access Now to help keep the internet on around the globe.
2021: Lush went Anti-Social
In 2021, the Facebook Files were released, thanks to whistleblower Frances Haugen, exposing the very real harms being caused by the platform. So on Black Friday we turned our back on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and TikTok, until these platforms took action to provide a safer environment for users.
2023: ESC Big Tech
We joined forces with the decentralised movement People vs Big Tech, raising money for their work to rein in the handful of Big Tech companies that have monopolised the Internet with intrusive surveillance, predatory addictive-algorithms, harmful content and echo chambers. We launched ‘The Cloud’ bath bomb, with 100% of the proceeds (minus government taxes) going to People vs. Big Tech to fund vital campaigning. We invited you to join the Big Tech Rebellion by signing the People’s Declaration, an open network of concerned individuals and civil society organisations working together to challenge the power and abuses of Big Tech.
So that Lush discount code search tab? Close it. That nagging feeling of FOAMO? Ignore it. Because when it comes to Black Friday, our soul is not on sale.
