Apricot Kernel Oil

Ingredient

Apricot Kernel Oil

Prunus Armeniaca

Benefits

Natural

Rich in vitamin A and unsaturated fats, this oil, lightweight and velvety in texture, moisturises and protects, keeping the skin feeling soft and supple.

The apricot tree is widely cultivated in the Northern Hemisphere, although it is thought to have originated in China. Belonging to the Rosaceae family, this deciduous tree can grow up to 12 metres tall and has a dense canopy of heart-shaped leaves. It produces pale pink flowers and soft, fleshy fruit that contain a hard pit, within which the kernel is stored.

This protective oil is obtained by cold-pressing the pits of apricots, releasing the oil from the kernels inside. The oil is faint yellow in colour and has a distinct apricot aroma.

Apricot kernel oil is mainly made up of oleic and linoleic acids, which are both unsaturated fats that have known benefits for the hair and skin. Oleic acid helps to maintain suppleness and radiance, whilst linoleic acid provides moisture, that is easily absorbed as it resembles the natural sebum our skin produces.

This oil also acts as a fixative in deodorants, enabling powders to stick to the skin and keep absorbing excess sweat comfortably throughout the day.
