Ingredient

Blackcurrant Powder

Ribes nigrum

Benefits

Natural

Blackcurrants add an irresistible berry scent to products as well as a dark purple hue. The little fruit is reviving and soothing, thanks to its high vitamin content.

The blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) is a medium-sized shrub, cultivated in Europe and Asia for its fruit. The small dark berries can be eaten raw or made into juice, jam and alcohol. Just like its redcurrant cousin, the blackcurrant plant usually flowers in April, and then over the summer months produces bunches of dark, juicy fruits that hang in bunches like grapes.

What are the benefits of blackcurrant powder?

  • Help to protect the skin
  • Sweet, fruity aroma
  • Can be used in solid, packaging-free products

Blackcurrants are highly antioxidant with vitamin E and A, and 200mg of vitamin C per 100g of fruit (very high!). Antioxidants are compounds made by plants to prevent the premature breakdown of cells that happens after exposure to atmospheric agents such as air, heat, and sunlight. Applied topically, antioxidants are thought to protect skin as well, keeping it toned, supple and radiant.
