Dried Marigold Flower

Ingredient

Dried Marigold Flower

Calendula officinalis

Benefits

Natural

A cheerful floret, golden like the sun, dried marigold flower is used to add delicate natural decoration to Lush products.

Marigolds, or calendulas, were used across numerous ancient cultures as a fabric dye, food, cosmetics, and in herbal remedies. In fact, calendulas are mentioned in one of the first pre-modern medical books by the renowned Medieval polymath Saint Hildegard von Bingen, who reportedly named them marigolds in honour of the Virgin Mary, to whom the flower was often offered in tribute in place of golden coins.

Marigold flowers are widely associated with protection and peace. In Mexico, this beautiful, vibrant, daisy-like blossom is known as 'flower of the dead', and it is thought to guide the spirits of loved ones during the cultural holiday of Dia de Muertos.

Where does Lush source dried marigold petals?

Lush purchases flowers (fresh and dried) from multiple suppliers, sourced from different countries around the world depending on species, season, and availability. They must comply with Lush's buying policy, which encourages growers to move away from the use of hazardous pesticides.
