Mango

Benefits

Natural

Syrupy sweet and rich in vitamins and nutrients, melt-in-the-mouth mango can be as much of a delicious treat in your cosmetics as it is in your fruit bowl.

You might not believe us when we tell you that mango is related to poison ivy (as well as cashew nuts and sumac), but we swear we’re telling the truth. Don’t let this distant cousin put you off though; famed Indian poet Ghalib once described his beloved mangoes as ‘sealed jars of paradisical honey’, and their benefits are equally worthy of praise. Now that sounds much more appealing!

What are the benefits of mango?

  • Supports the skin barrier: mango butter contains similar fatty acids to the likes of cocoa and shea butter, which help your skin to retain moisture by forming a protective barrier.
  • Mangiferin-rich: a bioactive compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that soothe and restore your skin and scalp.
  • Contains actinidin: a powerful enzyme that dissolves and removes dead skin cells, keeping the scalp and hair cleansed and shiny.
  • Sweet, fruity aroma: brings a tropical, summery vibe that smells so good you can almost taste the juicy, honeyed fruit itself.

How do we use mango in products?

You know Lush, putting the whole fruit in is our motto!

Mango butter, made from the kernel of the fruit, has a lower melting point than cocoa butter, but still brings softness and elasticity to the skin.

Fresh mango and mango juice are nutrient- and enzyme-rich, great for cleansing and giving gloss to the skin and hair.

We even use an extract (also known as an absolute) made from mango leaves, which has a tropical and green scent that transports you to dreamy sunny holidays.

You will find mango butter in Each Peach, our mood-boosting massage bar, as well as other seasonal and year-round delights.
