United In the Fight for Immigrant Rights

We must come together to defend everyone’s rights and freedoms.

Since day one, the Trump Administration has caused chaos and confusion. It has tested the rule of law and the foundation of democracy. From the moment it took office, the administration has misused federal power to silence dissent, disenfranchise marginalized communities, and undermine the rights we fought to secure for generations. Through executive orders, divisive speech, and government agency misuse, the goal is clear: to scare us into submission and undo decades of progress toward true freedom and equality for all.

As we resist these attacks, the need to know, understand and defend our rights and freedoms is vital. Everyone has constitutional rights, citizens and noncitizens alike. As a campaigning company we will always defend and promote human and civil rights for everyone, everywhere.

For over a year, we have witnessed the administration's harsh crackdown on immigrants as part of the goal to deport 1 million people. International human rights standards state that no human being can be “illegal” or be denied the protection of the law. Yet, ICE’s raids across the country are tearing families apart, deporting thousands without due process, holding people in inhumane detention centers, and routinely violating human rights with impunity.

Now more than ever, we can’t back down. Together we can defend one another by educating our communities about their rights and how to protect the rights of others. From Los Angeles to Chicago, Portland, and Minneapolis, millions of people have poured into the streets to protest and to keep each other safe. They have shown us that the resistance needed is not just possible; it is necessary.

For generations, those facing oppression — people of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and many others — have resisted, persevered, and fought for the promise of liberty and justice for all. Now, it is our turn to act: by marching, voting, organizing, and protecting one another — for our freedoms, our families, and our futures.

Lush Shops are ICE-Free Zones

During our Sanctuary for All advocacy campaign (March 2020), all Lush shops in the U.S. were declared ICE-free zones. While this designation began during the campaign, it is now a permanent statement in solidarity with migrant communities. This is an embodiment of Lush’s belief that all people should enjoy freedom of movement across the world, which was added to our guiding We Believe statement in 2017. By declaring our shops as ICE-free zones we have created a ring of safety and security for all our customers, and ensure that our staff are equipped with the proper information and resources to understand the rights everyone has when interacting with ICE agents. Our intention is to nurture a sense of belonging, since as a campaigning company, we believe we are stronger when we break down barriers together.

United Bath Bomb

Throughout the campaign, sales (75% of the purchase price minus the taxes) of the limited-edition United Bath Bomb will support organizations fighting for the rights of immigrants and all people. Lush’s giving program seeks to support small, grassroots organizations tackling issues spanning human rights, environmental justice, and animal protection. The limited-edition bath bomb will be available in all U.S. Lush shops, on Lush.com, and on the Lush app.

Here are a few of their voices:

“The right to freedom of expression and the right to protest are not only core to our democracy, these freedoms are also essential to protecting other fundamental civil rights and civil liberties including racial justice, immigrants’ rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, voting rights, and the right to an education free from censorship. The more people in this country who understand their constitutional rights and fight for them, the harder it will be for our freedom to be taken from us."

“We are facing a constitutional crisis where our neighbors are being picked off our streets and shipped out of the country without due process and that should scare us all. Today is the day to act because when the people are united, we can never be defeated. We are bigger than hate. While our leaders are focused on using our resources to sow hate, we should be focused on compassion and helping one another create a better tomorrow for all of our families. Together, we will win!”

"Schools should be a place where students not only learn about democracy and civic engagement, but also be encouraged to practice. Given the severity of the crises in the world that threaten students' future, it is imperative that they be introduced to a toolbox full of approaches to social change. The traditional textbook examples are marches and voting and while useful, no social movement has succeeded with those two strategies alone."

“We are experiencing a decline of quality in every sector of American life — from the ability to put food on the table and a roof over our heads, to quality education and healthcare. There are increasing attacks on our human and civil rights: the right to vote, the right to free speech, the right to a trial — and the right to not be deported to another country without due process. The power of the people has always been in our willingness to come together and take collective action. Now more than ever, we must work together toward a shared vision of a world where every person’s rights and dignity are respected and upheld.”
