Benzoin Resinoid

Styrax tonkinensis Pierre

We use benzoin resinoid for its soothing, calming and relieving qualities. We use it in shampoos and conditioners to calm the scalp, and also to form a protective layer on the hair, preventing moisture loss and boosting shine. It also imparts a sweet, vanilla-like essence, which adds to the perfume of many of our products and fragrances.

Benzoin is extracted from tender evergreen trees where the resin collects in small incisions made in the bark. The hardened gum is stored in pieces or pressed into blocks. It's then refined through solvent extraction to produce a resinoid which is used in perfumery.
