The Rheum palmatum is a different species of rhubarb from the one we are used to finding in pies and jams.
Native to China and Tibet, this one is mainly ornamental, with its huge palmate leaves (hence its botanical name) and clusters of pink or cream flowers. Although not edible, it is cultivated for medicinal purposes.
