Finding the Best Shampoo Bar for all Hair Types
Solid shampoo bars were invented over 30 years ago by Lush co-founder Mo Constantine and cosmetic chemist Stan Krysztal. Mo and Stan realised that a shampoo bar worked as the perfect base for all kinds of beautiful and effective natural ingredients. Their expertise laid the foundation for future inventions and innovations in our hair care range, which is why you are able to choose from a stunning range of shampoo bars, containing everything from cocoa butter and honey to peppermint and rosemary.
What are the Benefits of Using a Shampoo Bar?
Just how amazing are our solid shampoo bars? Let us list the ways! Our perfectly formed, packaging-free, solid shampoo bars are a great alternative to liquid shampoos which take more energy and water to create and then transport, and of course, no empty bottles to discard!
They are also entirely self-preserving, so no synthetic preservatives have to be added to keep them fresh. They make a perfect travel companion too. A no-spill alternative to liquid shampoo means no need to decant your shampoo into tiny bottles - and no pulling things out in the line for security! Our light solid shampoo bars can travel in your carry-on luggage hassle free.
What Shampoo Bar Should You Use?
We want everyone to have a perfect hair day everyday. So whether you need an extra dash of moisture, want your hair to feel squeaky clean, a little TLC for the scalp and anything in-between, you'll find a shampoo bar to fit your needs.
Let’s take a tour of the shampoo bars that we have on offer!
Turn Up the Volume - Shampoo Bars for Volume
Flyway Hair - We use coarse sea salt collected from salt pans along bird migration routes in this shampoo bar to give your hair great volume and to give fine hair a lift.
Seanik - For beautifully buoyant hair, lather up with softening Irish moss and volumising fine sea salt.
Oil Begone! - Shampoo Bars for Oily Hair
Jumping Juniper - Wash with juniperberry, lavender, rosemary and lemon then watch your hair bounce. This bar is the one for when hair needs a really good clean. Juniperberry oil clears the scalp and regulates sebum to leave you jumping for joy.

Avocado co-wash - If you have curly, coily or Afro hair (or it’s been chemically treated) there’s a good chance that your routine could benefit from co-washing. Our co-washes are solid bars that cleanse whilst maintaining the natural moisture levels in the hair. This fan favourite is SLS free and provides a gentle cleanse, while cocoa butter and fresh avocado steps in to replenish moisture.

Angel Hair - For hair that needs the softest of touches pick this one for a heaven-sent gentle calming cleanse. This soothing shampoo is divine for sensitive scalps and is packed with calming rose water and tension relieving ylang ylang.
Soak & Float - Full of antiseptic dandruff fighters and antimicrobial ingredients to provide balance for the scalp.
Do You Need to Use a Conditioner with a Shampoo Bar?
When you shampoo your hair, the outer layer which is structured like overlapping roof tiles known as the cuticle is lifted. A conditioner helps to smooth the cuticle back down, protecting your hair and making it less vulnerable to damage. Check out our range of conditioners to pick one that will take care of your hair and leave you feeling fab!
How Many Washes Does a Shampoo Bar Last?
These highly-concentrated handfuls, packed with powerful natural ingredients and essential oils, do the job of three 250g bottles of liquid shampoo. Each mighty bar gives you 80-100 washes (depending on hair shape, thickness and length) and is a lot lighter and slimmer than a shampoo bottle. That works out at just 11p a wash - brilliant for your hair and good for your bank account too!
How to Store Shampoo Bars?
After use, leave the bar out in the air to dry — or in a cork pot specially designed to keep your shampoo bar clean and dry when you’re travelling. 100% natural, reusable and biodegradable, this is packaging that fights climate change.
With such an impressive range of shampoo bars to choose from, which will you pick?
