Sage is antimicrobial and astringent and helps control perspiration. The fresh herb tones the skin and stimulates the scalp, encouraging hair growth.
Sage is surrounded by lore and legends, from druids to early medicine texts, praised for its many benefits for the body, health and mood, and even sexual virility!
Sage has a very green and fresh aroma. It is a shrubby, evergreen perennial herb, belonging to the mint family, with much branched stems and wrinkled, velvety, grey-green leaves. Spikes of violet, purple, pink or white flowers appear in summer, attracting bees with their abundant nectar.
Although native to southern Europe, sage grows worldwide, especially in warmer temperate regions, favouring dry, sunny hillsides and open ground.
