Making time for you and yours

For many of us, daily life is full of traffic, texts and multitasking; a massage can provide some much-needed time to relax and reflect. What's more, there are physical and mental benefits to bringing your partner along for the experience too.

Licensed marriage and family therapist and co-founder of Group Therapy Associates Esther Boykin explains: “During a massage session, people are almost instinctually driven to let go of the past and the future and turn their attention to the present moment. This practice of being fully engaged in an activity together that can help couples reconnect, and with a little effort, they can bring that same level of mindful awareness to their time outside of the massage.”

Lush Spa treatment developer Hannah Lammiman agrees: “Apart from the fun side of sharing a beautiful 1940s English treatment room, getting together to share a Lush Spa experience creates memories that last. Sharing a treatment room can be much more powerful than the eye can see. The therapist with his or her skilled hands, brings energy and the intention of creating the perfect retreat, but when a double treatment is performed, a space is created for the client to just be and feed off the shared, positive energy in the room. Sharing this time is fun, and creates feelings and emotions that bring people closer together. Even the chatting afterwards helps the clients to bond.”

Sharing is caring

Double treatment enthusiast Matthew Blackhurst-Evans says having a treatment with his partner is the perfect way to enjoy each other’s company while re-charging at the same time. “My partner and I had a double treatment recently and I think in simple terms it's really lovely to have that shared experience. You don't have to describe it to them afterwards as you were both there, so you can just revel in the feeling and effect. It's like watching a great film together and getting excited about the best bits after, comparing and offering opinions. It's a very underrated experience and I'll definitely be booking in with friends and family now.”

If you’re a little nervous about having a treatment, sharing the experience with a partner or loved one can also help to aid relaxation. Lush Oxford Street Spa therapist Sonja Bird explains: “I've found double treatments great for first-time spa visitors. Having a buddy to share the experience with can really take the edge off the nerves that a lot of people feel.” She also says that a double treatment is an ideal way for parents or guardians to gift a treatment to those under 18 who may be unable to have the experience alone, explaining: “Rather than having an adult just chaperoning the young person through their journey, they can actually share the full experience with them.”

Personalised for every duo

Because Lush Spa treatments are formulas, each using a combination of music, massage, fragrance and holistic techniques to rejuvenate the mind and body, double treatments require an additional level of skill and concentration from therapists. With two clients in one room, the therapists will work together to create flow and motion and set an intention in the room. Each moment is a combination of synchronised movement and free-flowing music.

Sonja explains: “Therapists will spend time together in the room working out logistics and recapping the treatment flow to make sure they are 100% in sync. They will also discuss which part of the consultation they are going to take care of so it's evenly divided.” The intention is to create a seamless, wonderful experience to share.
